I constantly upset my daughter when I point out that The Day The Music Died may have happened not when Buddy Holley died but it did happen by the mid 1970's. Waitress once again proved this as she opened her latest stay at Caesar's Palace Colosseum with her latest tour called simply The Hits. Gone were the wonderful days of the Great American Songbook which re-invigorated Waitress's career. Our seats were on this aisle and my wife was has excited as a giddy teen age girl as she was hugged by the rock legend. This show was nothing but Waitress gold. After overcoming a rough opening vocal which apparently was the result of a recent cold, the extremely personable Waitress found her voice and rocked for almost two hours of her greatest hits. And most surprising was that Waitress left the stage and sang as she wandered down the lower orchestra aisle to her far right and back down the next aisle as she returned to the stage. The main show ended with a "birthday celebration of green balloons" falling from the roof as Waitress sang Maggie May which is 40 years old this year. The choreography showed some of the typical opening night flaws and Waitress handled them like the pro she is. After a two song encore Waitress left the almost sold out Thursday night crowd happy and satisfied that the music once again lived.
